Project Kick-off & Regional Network meeting: Integrated Assessment of SDGs at the Provincial Level in Thailand

The Digital Belt and Road International Center of Excellence (DBAR-ICoE Bangkok) recently launched a three-year project towards advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Thailand and Southeast Asia which is sponsored by The National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT). The project will focus on promoting the application of big Earth data for monitoring and evaluating the progress of UN SDGs at the provincial level in Thailand. The outcome will be helpful for Thailand to contribute to SDG progress report.

Digital Belt and Road (DBAR) and the International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (CBAS) will provide critical support in research and data analysis. On behalf of DBAR Prof. Yubao Qiu, Secretary-General of the DBAR Secretariat, highlighted the critical importance of data in regional development and expressed strong support with the commitment to collaborate and share datasets to advance the project’s overarching vision.

The event also hosted various other important stakeholders, including the Department of International Organization, ASEAN Strategy and Cooperation Division, ASEAN Affairs Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD), and the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) expressing positive sentiments and emphasizing the importance of addressing data sensitivity issues and effective utilization of data outputs.

DBAR is dedicated to supporting the 2030 Agenda and is actively working to assist partner organizations in both public and private sectors, including international programs, initiatives, and agencies. DBAR aim to achieve this through research and capacity development activities. This project will provide an important opportunity to overcome challenges by fostering cooperation and collaboration, which will contribute to collective progress in addressing knowledge gaps related to earth system processes. Such projects and programs are crucial for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Belt and Road countries.
