DBAR Big Earth Data System included in China’s white paper titled "The Belt and Road Initiative: A Key Pillar of the Global Community of Shared Future"

To present the achievements of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) over the past decade and enhance international understanding of its value, China's State Council Information Office released a white paper titled "The Belt and Road Initiative: A Key Pillar of the Global Community of Shared Future" on 10th Oct, 2023. Its objective is to facilitate high-quality cooperation within it, ultimately benefiting more countries and peoples.

According to the white paper, BRI cooperation has delivered real gains to participating countries over the past decade. It has contributed to the sound development of economic globalization and helped address global development challenges while improving the global governance system. It has also opened up a new path for humanity to achieve modernization, and ensured that the efforts of building a global community of shared future are delivering real results.

In the section of “Promoting All-Round Connectivity in Multiple Fields”, the white paper introduces the DBAR Big Earth Data Platform, which has successfully achieved multilingual data sharing. The Platformhttp://www.opendbar.cn/ is one of the key outcome of Digital Belt and Road Program (DBAR) and presents a notable progress made within “Digital Belt and Road”, a sub-project of Chinese Academy of Sciences Big Earth Data Science Engineering Program (CASEarth).

The platform integrates four sets of practical operation systems, which include the storage and retrieval subsystem of Big Earth Data, the comprehensive decision support subsystem, the decision-making information production subsystem, and the data information visualization subsystem. It has now accumulated 4.76PB of data and has been providing services to scientists from 78 countries.

In 2016, DBAR was initiated by Chinese scientists. By 2023DBAR has established nine Working Groups and nine International Centers of Excellence, with 59 partners spread across four continents that are working on six SDGs. In the future, DBAR will continue to enhance scientific cooperation, facilitate data-driven decision-making and policy processes, and promote collective development among the Belt and Road countries.
